Chelsea will have to break their wage bill to sign Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland

Chelsea are interested in signing Erling Haaland this summer and are the only club willing to break the bank for him this summer. Dortmund are demanding a sum in excess of £150 million for their striker, and Chelsea are apparently willing to match that demand to get their man.

However, that won’t be enough in terms of the finances. The Blues will almost certainly have to make Haaland the highest earner at the club, and will have to pay the Norwegian a salary above £300,000 per week. N’Golo Kante is currently the highest-paid player at Stamford Bridge, drawing a well-deserved salary of £290,000 per week.

The Athletic maintain that Roman Abramovich is keen on bringing the Dortmund star to London, and will have to pay him a big salary. Haaland told Stadium Astro: ‘I talked a little bit with new manager Marco Rose. I know him from before because I had six months with him in Salzburg. He’s a nice guy and I look forward to working with him.’

The player has joined Dortmund’s preseason training camp, and expressed his admiration and interest regarding the chance to work with Marco Rose. The Dortmund chiefs have been rigid on their stance, and have repeatedly told clubs that Haaland is not for sale this summer.

His release clause worth £65 million kicks in starting from 2022, and every major club in the continent will be in the race to sign him. This includes the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus. So, Chelsea will have to exercise their financial strength if they hope to lure the striker to Fulham Road.
