Chelsea vs Liverpool ended in a draw for the 7th straight time in open play, with the two teams playing out a 1-1 draw. And just like their recent encounters over the past few seasons, it was a very entertaining draw with close chances galore for both teams.
Mauricio Pochettino managed to showcase a much more improved and direct style of play in his first game at Stamford Bridge. Nicolas Jackson, Levi Colwill and Axel Disasi made their debuts after being named in the starting line-up, while Lesley Ugochukwu and Ian Maatsen came off the bench.
For Liverpool, Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister made their debuts in the starting line-up. But, they were unable to produce the same attacking display in the second half as they did in the first.
Chelsea vs Liverpool ends 1-1 with two cancelled out goals
The scoring opened via Luis Diaz, who ended his scoring drought after getting at the end of a ball from Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian found the back of the net shortly after, and looked like he had managed to continue his tradition of scoring on the opening day of the season.
But the tradition was broken as the goal was ruled out for offside. Shortly after, Ben Chilwell found the back of the net at the other end, but his effort was ruled out for offside as well.
Both teams came excruciatingly close to taking the lead throughout the second half. But, Chelsea were the more attacking team throughout the game. Mykhaylo Mudryk was through on goal in the final minutes of stoppage time, but he couldn’t get his shot away to win the match.
