Chelsea and Liverpool face each other in the 2024 Carabao Cup final, a repeat of their 2022 meeting. The intense clash last time around was won by the Reds, who also defeated Chelsea in the FA Cup final that season to complete a domestic double.
The Blues, on the other hand, have been completely transformed since their last appearance in a Cup final. Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah, Reece James and Ben Chilwell are the only outfield players that are still present from the squad that tasted defeat in the finals previously.
Chelsea vs Liverpool Carabao Cup 2024 final: Preview, where to watch
Liverpool have been hit with an injury crisis leading up to the big game, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson, Diogo Jota, Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones ruled out through injury. Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez are doubtful for the clash, after missing the game against Luton Town in midweek.
Chelsea, however, have their fittest squad in the entirety of the season. Christopher Nkunku is back, while Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez are all expected to start, with Nicolas Jackson also expected to play an important role.
Thiago Silva, Carney Chukwuemeka, Wesley Fofana, Romeo Lavia, Lesley Ugochukwu, Reece James, Benoit Badiashile and Marc Cucurella will miss the final, but Chelsea have Levi Colwill, Axel Disasi and Chalobah fit to start in the big game.
Jurgen Klopp’s side will head into the game as the favourites, having thrashed the Blues 4-0 just a few weeks ago. And in spite of the injuries, they will be expected to claim the Carabao Cup one more time.
