New day, new signing for Chelsea. The West London club have agreed the signing of Jimmy Jay Morgan for their academy from Southampton.
Morgan plays as a striker, and was born in 2006. He has made a name for himself as one of the brightest prospects in the highly-rated Saints academy, and they are quite disappointed to lose him at this stage.
Jimmy Jay Morgan signs for Chelsea’s academy
Chelsea have paid £3 million plus add-ons for the 17-year-old. The medical for the transfer has also been completed, and the deal has been finalised by the two clubs to go through. He will be linking up with the Cobham academy youngsters in the coming days once the formalities are all done.
The youngster has played 13 games at the youth level this season, and has scored six goals while providing five assists. Jimmy Jay Morgan has also represented England at the U17 and U16 level, making eight appearances at both levels.
Most of the signings for Todd Boehly’s side have been in their teens, and early twenties. Cesare Casadei, Carney Chukwuemeka, David Datro Fofana and Omari Hutchinson are among the other players that have been recruited as terms who are developing in the academy. And it will be interesting to see whether these youngsters can find their way into the first team down the line.
