Chelsea have recorded a loss worth £145.6 million for the financial year that ended in June 2021. The main reason behind such huge losses is due to the ongoing pandemic.

Fans were barely allowed in for the entirety of the previous campaign, and teams across the division were denied any matchday revenue. With Chelsea playing all their home games behind closed doors, they had to work with zero matchday revenue until the final couple of days.

Chelsea release financial loss record for last season

The total matchday revenue last season was only £7.2 million, due to the restrictions. But despite these challenges, their turnover rose by £29 million to £416.8 million. The lack of fans in the stadium also meant a decrease in commercial revenue by £16.1 million to £136million.

Chelsea Football Club has recorded a loss of 145.6 £ inspite of triumphing in the Champions League this year.

With fans being allowed to attend games this season, the club will be earning much more and can achieve a better financial situation when the current financial year ends. The TV revenue for the previous season has also been released, which puts the Blues among the highest earners in the world.

Chelsea changed managers last season, and brought in Thomas Tuchel after he was dismissed from PSG. The German replaced Frank Lampard in the dugout and went on to win the Champions League trophy only months after being appointed.

Tuchel is now facing an injury crisis in the Chelsea squad, which has set the team back in the title race.
