Stamford Bridge has emerged as the only possible destination for Saul Niguez this summer. Chelsea have made a loan proposal for the midfielder, and are not interested in a direct permanent transfer or an obligation to buy.
Their transfer strategy for Saul is similar to the one they implemented for Mateo Kovacic as he made his move to London from Madrid. With only a few days remaining in the transfer market, the Blues will have to act fast if they want to get the deal done.
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has hinted that his team isn’t quite done in the transfer market just yet. Kurt Zouma is expected to leave for West Ham United in the upcoming days, while Tiemoue Bakayoko is also set to join AC Milan on an initial loan deal with the option to make the move permanent. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is also one of the names that could make their way out of the club late, in an attempt to make room for Saul.
Sevilla defender Jules Kounde is also a target for the European Champions, and Chelsea want to sign the French centre-back as a replacement for Kurt Zouma. However, they haven’t launched an official bid for him yet.
Under Diego Simeone, Saul has managed to become a complete midfielder and has added to his defensive qualities alongside his attacking prowess. He can provide the goal scoring threat from midfield that Chelsea currently lack. Moreover, he can also develop his game further under Thomas Tuchel, and alongside Kante, he could take their game to the next level.
