Chelsea were able to pick up their first away win since October by defeating Leicester City 3-1 at the King Power Stadium. The team also scored three goals for the first time in a game since October, with the game against Wolves being the last such occasion.
In the span of a week, the Blues have won three straight games. First, defeating Leeds United at home before overturning a 1-0 deficit in the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund. And now, they have handed another loss to Leicester City, adding further misery to their season.
Chelsea finally turning things around under Graham Potter
The visitors could have had a few more goals by the end of the game, considering their chances that hit the post and marginal offside decisions. Joao Felix was the man who was denied on both occasions, and was subbed off at half time for tactical reasons despite having a good first half.
Ben Chilwell scored on the volley against his former club, before Kai Havertz produced a sublime finish to convert Enzo Fernandez’s lobbed ball over the defence. Mateo Kovacic scored a rare goal, giving Mykhaylo Mudryk his first Chelsea assist. The Ukrainian almost got on the scoresheet himself, but his effort was also ruled out for offside.
Patson Daka was able to threaten the Blues in the first half with a well-taken goal, but Havertz was able to restore the lead right before half time.
Graham Potter has opted to stick with a 3-4-3 line-up, and that has proved to be the winning formula for Chelsea. There haven’t been many changes to the starting line-up, and there is now much more cohesion among the players.
The only two factors that remain to be sorted out are being more clinical in front of goal, and staying consistent every week. Champions League spots might seem out of reach at the moment, but a decent winning run could turn things around in their favour.
