Chelsea are in talks to hijack Manchester City’s bid to sign Marc Cucurella from Brighton. The Seagulls are demanding an offer in excess of £50 million for their player, who has several years remaining on his contract.

The Premier League champions are not willing to match Brighton’s evaluation of the Spaniard. And as a result, they might pull out of the negotiations. This leaves the track clear for Chelsea to sign the player.

City’s bid worth £40 million for the defender has been rejected by Brighton. And Chelsea are now planning to hold talks with the club for their star player. They are also planning to include Levi Colwill in negotiations, with the Cobham academy graduate potentially going the other way.

However, even though Brighton are interested in Colwill, it is unclear whether Levi Colwill will be moving in the other direction. Personal terms are not an issue for Cucurella and Chelsea. But the main obstacle is reaching an agreement with Brighton over the transfer fee.

There are rumours suggesting that Barcelona could also enter the race to sign the player. They are looking at alternatives given that the signing of Marcos Alonso is taking more time than expected.

Marc Cucurella has indicated that he woul be open to a return to Camp Nou. And Chelsea fans’ worst fear – Barcelona hijacking yet another transfer this summer – also remains a possibility.
