Chelsea could be headed towards a dramatic shift once Roman Abramovich sells the club in the coming weeks. The Russian has made his club available for sale following calls to sanction him in the UK Parliament.
While he has denied ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, his position in the eyes of Britain continues to be a negative one. And hence, he released an official statement through the club’s website which revealed that his time as the owner of Chelsea was headed towards its end.
Chelsea could let go of massive backstage figures once Abramovich leaves
Bruce Buck has been advising Abramovich since 2004, and could be one of the names headed out of the club. The director of the club, Marina Granovskaia, could also leave following the change in ownership. Since 2014, she has been involved in brokering deals and renewing contracts with players.
Granovskaia was also recently awarded the best director award at the Golden Boy Awards ceremony. However, that might not be enough to keep her at the club. Club legend Petr Cech could also follow suit, as he is currently working backstage at the club.
To maintain the club financially, Chelsea could also be forced to sell some players they weren’t intending on selling in the summer. The exact players that could be made available haven’t been confirmed, but a shift is underway at West London.
The contract renewal talks with Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta could also fall through with the departure of Granovskaia, and the eventual change in hierarchy once the new owners settle in.
