At the moment, there aren’t many positives to speak of in Barcelona. The Catalan club is now in 9th place in La Liga and is on the verge of missing out on the Champions League group stage.

One of the few bright spots for La Blaugrana is the recent influx of La Masia graduates into the senior ranks. Ansu Fati and Oscar Mingueza are probably better known to casual Barcelona viewers.

However, a new 17-year-old star has emerged, and he has already established himself as a regular for the Spanish outfit. Gavi is the player in question, who made his professional Barca debut only a few months ago but has already made 13 appearances for the club. With his current contract scheduled to end in 2023, a number of clubs have indicated an interest in signing him, with El Nacional reporting that Chelsea is one among them.

Gavi is a center midfielder by profession, and with Xavi Hernandez at the helm, the teenager will undoubtedly learn a lot more in the months ahead. Gavi has been so successful this season that he was given his senior Spain debut in October, and he has now played four times for La Roja.

With such obvious skill, however, topsides are going to be interesting. According to recent sources, Chelsea is interested in activating Gavi’s release clause, which is said to be worth £42 million.

However, according to trade expert Fabrizio Romano, the Chelsea-Gavi whispers are unconcerned for Barcelona. This comes as negotiations to extend the youngster’s contract at the Camp Nou are rapidly underway.
