Chelsea have finally completed the signing of Moises Caicedo from Brighton, after agreeing a British record fee worth £115 million for the player. The most dramatic transfer saga of the summer saw Liverpool’s £110 million bid accepted by the Seagulls to sanction the transfer.
But, they could not agree personal terms with Moises Caicedo as he had agreed a contract with Chelsea since the end of May. In discussions with the Reds, he told them that he only wanted to join Chelsea and was sold to the West London club after a final bid from Todd Boehly’s side which was £5 million more than Liverpool’s.
The sudden £50 million bid for Romeo Lavia provoked Liverpool to make an offer for Caicedo. But, they were unable to get the deal over the line and have now made a £60 million offer for Lavia.
Chelsea sign Moises Caicedo in British record transfer
The Ecuadorian has completed the first part of the medical for the transfer, and is currently in London. He has agreed an eight year contract with the Blues until 2031 with the option for another year. This is similar to that agreed by Chelsea’s former record signing, Enzo Fernandez, whom Caicedo will play with in midfield.
Since Boehly’s arrival at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea have spent more than £800 million on signings. They have offloaded several players and have finally been able to rebuild the midfield which was lacking since last season.
The Blues are expected to sign a new goalkeeper after the departure of Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan to Real Madrid. They have signed Robert Sanchez from Brighton already, but could recruit another shot stopper to replace Kepa.
