Cristiano Ronaldo: “I could have been worth €300m …. and I could play into my 40s”

Age is often just a number in football, with players on the other side of 30 showing their quality on numerous occasions. In this article, we will be taking a look at the top 5 oldest players to score a Champions League hat-trick.

The Bosnian forward currently plays for Inter Milan, but previously featured for Roma. With them, he has scored only one hat-trick in the Champions League, which came in the 2017/18 season against Viktoria Plzen.

4. Claudio Pizarro (34 years and 34 days)

Pizarro scored his only hat-trick against Lille in a 6-1 win for Bayern Munich. The striker played for some of the top clubs in Germany, but his most prolific spell was with the Bavarians.

3. Cristiano Ronaldo (34 years and 35 days)

In March 2019, Ronaldo set the record for being the oldest player to score a hat-trick in the Champions League. He single-handedly turned around a two-goal deficit against Atletico Madrid, helping Juventus eliminate the Rojiblancos. The Portuguese is the top scorer of all-time in the Champions League, and has several other incredible records to his name as well.

2. Olivier Giroud (34 years and 63 days)

Giroud scored four times in Chelsea’s win against Sevilla in the 20/21 season, where they won the Champions League title for the second time. This was the Frenchman’s most prolific season in the competition before being surpassed by his compatriot.

1. Karim Benzema (34 years and 80 days)
