The penultimate day of the Champions League group stage saw a number of surprises, including the fate of Group D. All of the clubs had a chance to top the group, but Spurs and Eintracht Frankfurt ultimately made it through.

The Europa League winners have made history by qualifying for the knockout stages in their very first season in the Champions League. On the other hand, Spurs earned their first win in five away games in the European top flight to go through.

Marseille were completely outplaying Tottenham in the first half of their game at the Velodrome. They were able to get the lead heading into the tunnel as well, with Chancel Mbemba scoring right before the half-time whistle.

Clement Lenglet equalised for the Premier League club following a free-kick from Ivan Perisic. And in the absolute dying stages of the game, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was able to find the match-winner to ensure that they finished at the top of the group.

Eintracht Frankfurt had the same scoreline in their game against Sporting CP. Two second half goals from Daichi Kamada (penalty) and Randal Kolo Muani sealed all three points for the Bundesliga side while their opponents drop down to the Europa League.
