Barcelona are set to speed up negotiations for Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta in the coming days. The Spaniard has made it clear to the club that he would like a move back to his home country.

He has spent close to a decade in West London, and has won every trophy available playing for the club. Now, he is open to a new challenge and coming close to the end of his career. Hence, he wants to play for the Catalonian side in what could be one of the final chapters of his illustrious career.

The defender has one year remaining on his current deal with Chelsea. The transfer fee for him is the main subject of debate between the two clubs. The Blues want a nominal fee to let their captain leave, while Barcelona’s financial situation prohibits them from spending too much.

Personal terms have already been agreed between Cesar Azpilicueta and Barcelona since March. The contract agreed is for two years until 2024, but the clubs must reach an agreement first.

Marcos Alonso is also pushing for a move to Camp Nou alongside Azpilicueta. The left-back has one year remaining on his contract as well. However, a fee for him is yet to be discussed between the two clubs. By the end of the transfer window, as many as three Chelsea defenders could be wearing Barcelona shirts next season.
