Cesar Azpilicueta has put bed to rumours of a transfer to Barcelona, signing a new contract with Chelsea. The club captain has signed a two-year renewal with the Blues, amidst speculation that he might move to Camp Nou to spend the next few years closer to his friends and family.

Chelsea wanted a transfer fee even though Azpilicueta was in the final year of his contract. But now, it seems like he will not be moving to the Spanish side while the future of Marcos Alonso remains uncertain.

The defender would’ve joined Andreas Christensen as the second player to join Barcelona from Stamford Bridge this summer. But that won’t be the case anymore, owing to his contract renewal.

Xavi wanted to sign the player to bolster the defence, but Thomas Tuchel and Todd Boehly both wanted him to stay. And now, they have convinced Cesar Azpilicueta to spend the next few years as the captain of the club.

Chelsea are also in talks to sign Wesley Fofana from Leicester City to bolster their defense. The Blues have had a £60 million bid rejected already, as the Foxes are holiding out for a higher transfer fee. They have maintained that they don’t want to sell the player this summer, with several years remaining on his current deal that he recently renewed.
