CES 2021: Fossil declares Gen 5 LTE smartwatch, comes with the same old processor

For the first time, Fossil is making a smartwatch with LTE, that is the Gen 5 LTE. You might have already guessed seeing the boring name, this smartwatch is based on Fossil’s Gen 5 Wear OS platform. This suggests that it contains several same features and gives a performance same as the previous Fossil smartwatches since 2019. This watch will have a price tag of $349 and going to available from Spring in the US either at Verizon or in Fossil stores.

The attractive part is its processor, Qualcomm Snapdragon 3100. This processor is fast enough to control Wear OS’s software. But according to the feedbacks, the smartwatches which feature this processor don’t give more than one day of battery life. This is very unexpected that Fossil is not using the new Snapdragon 4100 yet.

The Gen 5 LTE features heart rate, elevation, ambient light, and GPS. A ‘swimproof’ speaker is also included. Coming to the color variation, it comes in a black or rose gold version with a 45mm case, only one size. This watch uses an eSIM.

There might come a new hybrid smartwatch from Fossil’s Skagen brand, which basically uses a more bare-bones software platform of Fossil. The Skagen Jorn Hybrid HR is going to cost $195 and it could come with a case of either 38mm or 42mm featuring several color choices.

The watch performs like a basic smartwatch and gives a battery life of two weeks on a charge. It is able to detect your heart rate, count steps, and show all notifications.

The company came in that place with their Wear OS watches, where they don’t flub the basics. Google has to do the entire thing to make the software more interesting. The next of Google about the hardware front is to finish the acquisition of Fitbit.
