Results season is here, and with it comes one of the biggest announcements in Indian education every year. The [Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Board_of_Secondary_Education) has officially declared the Class 10 board exam results for 2025-26 — and this year, the story is as much about what CBSE chose **not** to release as what it did.

No merit list. No official topper rankings. And yet, over 23 lakh students have something to celebrate.

## Why No Merit List? CBSE’s Deliberate Choice

In line with its efforts to promote student well-being, CBSE continued its policy of not releasing a merit list, thereby discouraging unhealthy competition among students. Instead, the focus remains on overall learning outcomes and individual progress. This is a meaningful policy shift that reflects a broader national education philosophy — one that values growth over rankings and mental health over cutthroat competition. Students who excel will still receive recognition: the board will issue merit certificates to the top 0.1% of students who scored the highest marks in each subject — issued through DigiLocker after the second board exams. ## Girls Outshine Boys — Again

Girls have once again outperformed boys, securing a pass percentage of 94.99% compared to 92.69% for boys — reflecting a consistent trend observed over the years. ## Region-Wise: South India Leads the Pack

Trivandrum and Vijayawada topped the region-wise list with an impressive 99.79% pass rate each. Chennai followed closely at 99.58%, and Bengaluru recorded 98.91%.
