Lawmen: The fictional character Bass Reeves is modeled after the actual lawman Bass Reeves, who is renowned for being among the first black law enforcement officials beyond the Mississippi River. Before the American Civil War, Bass Reeves was born into slavery in Arkansas, and his life story is chronicled in the Paramount+ series.
After a while, Reeves managed to get away and lived in Indigenous Territory, which is now part of Kansas and Oklahoma, until Reeves was freed and slavery was outlawed in 1865 by the Thirteenth Amendment. David Oyelowo While Bass Reeves
David Oyelowo plays Bass Reeves in the new Paramount+ series. In film history, other actors have played Reeves a number of times, but none have been as eagerly awaited as Oyelowo’s, who also serves as the project’s executive producer. Throughout his career, Sutherland has starred in almost 200 motion pictures and television shows. Barry Pepper in the role of Esau Pierce
The fictional commander of the 1st Cherokee Mounted Rifles, a regiment of the Confederate States Army, is Esau Pierce, played by Barry Pepper. In Lawmen, Pierce faces off against one of his greatest adversaries, Bass Reeves, who significantly outwits the well-known lawman.
Pepper’s most well-known films include True Grit (2010), The Green Mile (1999), and Saving Private Ryan (1998). He will undoubtedly be one of the most fascinating and surprising characters when he makes his appearance in Lawmen: Bass Reeves, which will have four episodes.
Jenie Reeves, played by Lauren E. Banks
Nellie Jennie, Bass Reeves’ real-life wife, is portrayed by Lauren E. Banks. On George Reeves’ ranch in Grayson County, Texas, Jennie and Bass first come together as slaves and start dating during the Civil War. Played by Demi Singleton, Sally Reeves is Bass and Jennie Reeves’ daughter. Sally was one of the eleven children that the real-life Bass Reeves had. The role that Singleton is most renowned for is that of Serena Williams in 2021’s King Richard, costarring Will Smith, who is infamous for taking home the Oscar for the first time in 2022.
Although Singleton’s acting career has been very short, she did make an appearance in the MGM series Godfather of Harlem, starring Forest Whitaker, as Margaret Johnson.
Good luck, Forrest as Billy Crow
In four of the show’s episodes, Bass Reeves receives assistance from Billy Crow, a young Cherokee man portrayed by Forrest Goodluck. Notable roles for Forrest Goodluck include those in the 2022 thriller How to Blow Up a Pipeline and the Academy Award–winning movie The Revenant. As a member of Bass Reeves’ law enforcement posse, Garrett Montgomery is portrayed by Garrett Hedlund in the film Lawmen: Bass Reeves. TRON: Legacy (2010), Four Brothers (2005), Mudbound (2017), On the Road (2012), Unbroken (2014), and Tulsa King (2022–2023) are some of Hedlund’s most well-known films.
Joaquina Kalukango As Esme: In Lawmen: Bass Reeves, Kalukango portrays Esme, a former slave who is connected to the Reeves family. In addition, the actor starred in the 2019 films When They See Us, One Night in Miami…, and Lovecraft Country (2020).
Ike, played by Justin Hurtt-Dunkley, is a different American Deputy Marshall who travels in Lawmen alongside Bass Reeves. In addition to portraying Madeline Butler in Blindspot and Officer Trammel in Mare of Easttown, Justin Hurrt-Dunkley made his television debut in 2010’s How It Make It in America.
Grantham Coleman as Edwin Jones: In Lawmen: Bass Reeves, Edwin Jones is characterized as a visionary and compelling figure. Coleman most recently starred with Aubrey Plaza in Power Book III: Raising Kanan, Rustin, a 2023 Netflix film, and Black Bear, a 2020 film.
