## Why This Prequel Matters

*Kantara: Chapter 1* traces the reign of the Kadambas of Karnataka, a mythic detour from the original’s nature-versus-human conflict set in a coastal village. Produced by Hombale Films, the same studio behind *KGF*, it’s had a demanding journey: three years in the making and 250 days of shoot, according to [The Hollywood Reporter India’s report](https://www.hollywoodreporterindia.com/features/insight/kantara-chapter-1-gulshan-devaiah-joins-the-rishab-shetty-rukmini-vasanth-film). Shetty has spoken candidly about the film being deeply personal — a story of his village, his people, and his beliefs.

Music comes from B Ajaneesh Loknath, while the screenplay is co-written by Anirudh Mahesh and Shanil Guru alongside Shetty.
