When Casemiro linked up with former Real Madrid teammate Raphael Varane at Manchester United last summer, it was expected that things would change drastically for the Red Devils. But only a year later, both of them find themselves amidst rumours of an exit with things changing behind the scenes as well.Â
With Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority takeover of the club to be finalised next week, chief executive Richard Arnold and sporting director John Murtough are both expected to leave soon. And as a result, the first team squad could also be restructured with both former Madrid players moved on.
Raphael Varane and Casemiro to be sold by Manchester United?Â
Regular injuries have prevented both players from nailing down a starting spot in Erik Ten Hag’s side. Varane in particular had a falling out with the manager after he was benched for the Manchester derby, with Jonny Evans starting over him.
Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in signing him during the January transfer window, but have made no concrete offer yet. Varane’s appearances since then have been sporadic and from the bench, and his future remains uncertain for the time being.Â
Casemiro could end up staying until the summer, but even then, his future would be up for debate. The Brazilian wasn’t in the best form when he started the season, but found his feet in subsequent weeks. And owing to the chaos behind the scenes in the dressing room as well, he could end up leaving in the summer, two years after signing from Madrid.
