With more than 3.3 million vehicles sold in the first half of this year, Hyundai Motor Group has overtaken Ford Motor Company as the third largest carmaker in the world by sales.
Toyota is currently in first place with sales of 5.1 million automobiles within the same time period, followed by VW Group in second place with sales of 4 million vehicles.
3rd Largest Carmaker
As per a report, when overall volumes are considered, Hyundai Motor Group came in fifth place compared to the same period previous CY (H1 2021). With the Korean conglomerate only reporting a 5.1% decline in sales, it has been claimed that manufacturing problems experienced by auto manufacturers throughout the world as a result of the semiconductor scarcity have been the primary cause.
Furthermore, this hasn’t been much compared to other automakers in H1 2022. The volume momentum of the luxury brand Genesis is one of the primary causes of the remarkable sales figures. General Motors saw a decline of 18.6% in the first half of 2022, followed by Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi (17.3%), Stellantis (16%), VW (14%), and Toyota (6%).
Contribution of Hyundai
25,668 units were produced by Genesis, a brand-new record for Hyundai Motor Group, in the United States alone. In the year from January to May 2022, HMG sold 27,000 electric vehicles in the US, coming in second only to Tesla. Recently, the Kia EV6 was named 2022 European Car of the Year, while the Hyundai Ioniq 5 was named 2022 World Car of the Year.
The same E-GMP dedicated skateboard EV design serves as the foundation for both. A few months ago, the EV6 crossover made its local premiere. It enters the country through the CBU method. In the upcoming months, its sibling, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, will be unveiled in India, where its base configuration may be made available.
The Ioniq 5 could cost less than Rs. 50 lakhs and will likely be domestically produced, unlike the Kia EV6 (ex-showroom). Following the Venue N Line debut in India, Hyundai will likely introduce the Ioniq 5 and Creta facelift in early 2023.
