Carlo Ancelotti has singled out Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella as the replacement for Luka Modric in the long run. The Croatian is not getting any younger, despite being able to put in excellent performances every time he takes to the pitch.
And so, even though he might not show the signs, he will have to make way at some point in the future. Considering that the World Cup takes place this year, Modric could hang up his boots at the end of the season alongside a number of other such players.
Luka Modric successor identified by Ancelotti
At 37, Luka Modric is still performing at the top level and has featured for Madrid in all their games so far this season. And his contract only runs until the end of the season, which means that a new midfielder could be required.
The likes of Eduardo Camavinga and Federico Valverde have been used in his place while rotating. But, a like for like replacement could benefit the system as well. Which is why Nicolo Barella could be a great signing.
The Italian has been very influential for the Rossoneri, and has also been hyped as a future captain of the club. He recently signed a new contract to extend his stay at San Siro until 2026. So, any transfer for him will be very expensive for potential suitors, especially considering Inter Milan don’t want to sell the player.
