Indian football fans dreaming of watching the FIFA World Cup 2026 live in Canada got a harsh reality check. Canada’s visa rejection numbers are staggering — and India is among the worst-hit nations.

### Canada Visa Numbers at a Glance

| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Ghana | 1,953 | 1,423 | ~73% |

### Why Are So Many Visas Being Rejected?

Canada’s [visitor visa](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visitor_visa) system requires applicants to prove strong ties to their home country — employment, property, family — to demonstrate they will return after the visit. For applicants from countries like India, Pakistan, Ghana, and Nigeria, immigration officers often apply greater scrutiny.

Preliminary data from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada showed that between November 14, 2025, when the special visitor visa category was first announced, and March 2026, hundreds of applications from multiple countries were denied. Even fans from countries that didn’t qualify for the tournament — like Nigeria — submitted applications in the thousands, only to face mass rejections.

### What Indian Fans Can Still Do

If your application was rejected, you’re not entirely out of options:

- **Re-apply** with stronger supporting documents (bank statements, employment letters, property papers)
- **Watch matches in the USA or Mexico**, which are co-hosting the tournament with less stringent visa challenges for Indian passport holders
