Frank Lampard has been officially announced as Chelsea’s caretaker manager until the end of the 22/23 season. The Blues legend returns to the club having managed them between 2019 and 2021, and has been tasked with replacing Graham Potter.
Bruno Saltor was chosen as the man to oversee the club following Potter’s dismissal. But, he has clearly been deemed inexperienced and too attached to the former manager. As a result, Lampard has been signed to give the board more time to go over a long-term option.
Can Frank Lampard save Chelsea’s season?
Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann are two of the top candidates being interviewed by the board to take over in the summer. A thorough interview process is being carried out to ensure that this time, the board gets the right man to lead the team.
And in the meantime, a club legend like Frank Lampard can instil the qualities that a club like Chelsea needs in the fresh squad. Lampard knows the club very well, and can influence the newcomers about what Chelsea is all about and boost their motivation to play for the badge.
Moreover, his style of play is quite opposite to that of Graham Potter. Lampard prefers a more chaotic, all-out attack approach in comparison to Potter’s careful and defensive tactics. As a result, this could give the attackers licence to go ahead and not worry about tracking back.
Chelsea will need to play to ensure that they can at least finish in the top half, if not the European spots. Moreover, they have the Champions League quarter finals to play, and will have to focus on both to salvage their season.
