Cameroon completed a remarkable comeback to win their final game of AFCON and stand third in the competition. They won 5-3 on penalties after the game ended level on 3-3.
Burkina Faso’s miraculous run in the tournament finally came to an end at the hands of Cameroon, after they came back to win the game despite being down three goals in the second half.
Cameroon earn bronze medal at AFCON
Steeve Yago helped open the scoring for Burkina Faso, and their luck continued after Andre Onana made an error to help the opposition double their advantage in the game. The second half also saw Djibril Ouattara add a third goal to the game, but it was not over just yet.
The game turned on its head shortly after, with Stéphane Bahoken starting the comeback. Vincent Aboubakar became a hero for the national team, scoring a brace after coming off the bench to level things up and send the game into extra time.
Playing cautiously, neither team was able to find the extra goal in the last 30 minutes of the game, and it headed to extra time. And ultimately, Burkina Faso lost out to Cameroon on spot-kicks.
The final has been set up between Senegal and Egypt and they will be joined by the winners of the third-place playoff as the top three clubs in Africa this year.
