The BCCI has recently announced their extension of the front jersey partner Byju’s. Rohit Sharma and his team will feature the ed-tech startup’s logo for one more year. The deal was supposed to end after the series against Sri Lanka.
“BYJU’S will be taking over all obligations of the current team sponsor OPPO mobiles India private limited. The BCCI is pleased to welcome India’s leading education and learning app BYJU’S as the official Team India sponsor from 5th September 2019 until 31st March, 2022,” the BCCI had said in a statement in May 2019.
BYJU’s logo to be featured on the Indian jerseys for another year
Byju’s replaced Chinese mobile company Oppo from September 2019 to March 2022.
Oppo had won India’s jersey sponsor in 2017 that continued for five years. Oppo beat their rivals Vivo for a massive amount of 768 Cr but Oppo had to transfer the rights to Byju’s due to the increase in tensions between India and China over a border dispute.
Post the transfer, they paid BCCI Rs 4.61 Cr for a bilateral match and Rs 1.56 Cr for an ICC fixture. The BCCI will definitely release a fresh tender in 2023 when the sponsor’s deal expires.
“Mohali and Bengaluru are hosting a Test match each in the on-going series against Sri Lanka while Trivandrum (KCA) has requested to allot a match in September-October window as they expect rainfall in June. We, therefore, are requesting the following venues for the forthcoming home series against South Africa – Cuttack, Vizag, Delhi, Rajkot and Chennai.” as reported by Cricbuzz
