Kidambi Srikanth got defeated in Badminton World Championship Finals by Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew. the Indian team could save 2 match points in the second game but that didn’t resist Singapore’s, Loh Kean Yew. The exact figure was 15-21, 20-22. Srikanth bagged a silver medal for India which is the first one for the Indian championship. On the other hand, Akane Yamaguchi won the Women Singles title. She defeated Tai Tzu Ying to win the Women Singles Finals.

Srikanth initiated the game on a good note with 11-7 at halfway stage of the 1st game. The 24 year old Singaporean increased his pace and in no time the score figure was 21-15. The second game was extremely close. Srikanth had one point extra before Loh Kean Yew and surprised him with a very fast net-play.

Srikanth tried hard to level up again at 20-20. Unfortunately, he made a mistake at the very next stage and the Singaporean player won the World Title by 22-20.

  • Kidambi Srikanth won Silver Medal in 2021
  • Prakash Padukone won bronze in 1983
  • B Sai Praneeth won bronze in 2019
  • Lakshya Sen won Bronze in 2021

Srikanth’s Journey to finals

  • Semifinals– Srikanth defeated defeat Lakshya Sen by 17-21, 21-14, 21-17 in a thriller that lasted for one hour and nine minutes.
  • Quarterfinals: He even defeated the Dutch shuttler Mark Caljouw by 21-8, 21-7 in a contest that lasted for just 26 minutes.
  • Last 16: Srikanth didn’t let China’s Lu Guang Zu win in straight sets 21-10, 21-15, in a match that lasted for 40 minutes.
  • Round 2: The Indian again defeated Chinese shuttler Li Shi Feng by 15-21, 21-18, 21-17 in a thrilling contest that lasted for 70 minutes.
  • Round 1: Srikanth won over Pablo Abian of Spain in straight sets (21-12, 21-16) in 36 minutes.

Loh’s statement after winning

“I didn’t expect to come all the way into the final. I’m happy I was consistent, that’s what I’ve been working on. It wasn’t easy, we were struggling to match each other, and I’m glad I could last. I’m glad to make history as the first Singaporean in the final, but it’s not over yet and I have to focus on the next match.”

Yamaguchi won Women Singles Finals as Akane Yamaguchi beat Tai Tzu Ying. Yamaguchi won 21-14 and 21-11. This was her first world title.

Men’s Doubles Finals:  Japanese duo Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi are in their fifth final from six tournaments. Hoki/Kobayashi will become the first Japanese to win men’s doubles gold at the World Championships.

Women Doubles Finals: Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan, who were 2017 champions, overcame defending titlists Mayu Matsumoto/Wakana Nagahara 21-15 21-12.

Mixed Doubles Finals: The mixed doubles final will feature Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino against Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerattanachai.
