Blizzard has revealed that Phase 3 of [The Burning Crusade Anniversary](https://warcraft.wiki.gg/wiki/World_of_Warcraft:_Burning_Crusade_Classic_Anniversary_Edition) launches on August 27, 2026. It brings players back to two of the most memorable raids in World of Warcraft history: Black Temple and the Battle for Mount Hyjal.

Phase 3 also kicks off Tier 6 progression. You will be collecting powerful new armour sets, building reputation with fresh factions, unlocking epic gems, starting the Netherwing grind, and gearing up for a new Arena season.

August 27 gives guilds and returning players a hard deadline to work toward. If you want to walk into the new raids on day one, the smart move is to spend the time between now and then finishing attunements, stocking consumables, sorting out resistance gear, and wrapping up any Phase 2 goals still hanging over you.

## **Black Temple Will Be The Main Attraction**

Black Temple is the centrepiece of Phase 3 and one of the most recognisable raids in the whole expansion. Sitting in Shadowmoon Valley, the old draenei temple is now the seat of Illidan Stormrage and his forces.

The 25-player raid runs nine bosses:

- High Warlord Naj’entus
- Supremus
- Shade of Akama
- Teron Gorefiend
- Gurtogg Bloodboil
- Reliquary of Souls
- Mother Shahraz
- The Illidari Council
- Illidan Stormrage

Black Temple asks for more than raw damage. You are juggling positioning, movement, healing assignments, debuffs and a different set of mechanics on nearly every fight. Some bosses punish one person’s mistake with a wipe. Others only fall if the whole raid executes together.

Killing Illidan also gives eligible melee classes a shot at the Warglaives of Azzinoth. These legendary weapons are still among the most famous drops in the game, and chasing them will keep guilds coming back to Black Temple long after the first clear.

## **The Battle for Mount Hyjal Returns**

Phase 3 also opens the Battle for Mount Hyjal, a Caverns of Time raid that drops players into one of Warcraft’s defining historical battles.

Hyjal has five bosses: Rage Winterchill, Anetheron, Kaz’rogal, Azgalor and Archimonde. It does not play like a normal raid, though. Before each boss, you defend the Alliance and Horde bases against wave after wave of incoming enemies, so the pacing is completely different from a standard boss-to-boss clear.

That wave structure rewards consistency and punishes slip-ups. A mistake late in a sequence can send you back to redo a big chunk of it. Crowd control, threat management, recovering between waves and spending cooldowns at the right moment all carry real weight here.

Black Temple will pull most of the attention, but Hyjal matters just as much for progression. Tier 6 tokens and other strong items are split across the two raids, so any serious guild will be running both every week.

## **Attunements Should Be Your First Priority**

If you want to raid the moment the gates open, get your attunements done before August 27.

Mount Hyjal access runs through The Vials of Eternity quest, and there is a step people often miss: you pick it up from Soridormi at the Caverns of Time in Tanaris, and you need to be at least Revered with the Keepers of Time to start it. From there, the quest sends you to defeat Lady Vashj in Serpentshrine Cavern and Kael’thas Sunstrider in Tempest Keep to collect the vials themselves. If you have been slacking on Keepers of Time reputation, sort that out now, because it gates the whole thing.

Black Temple has an even longer chain. The story follows Akama and the Ashtongue Deathsworn and drags you through outdoor quests, dungeons, Serpentshrine Cavern, Tempest Keep and Mount Hyjal along the way. It is less a quick unlock and more a tour through most of the TBC endgame, so it is not something you finish in one evening.

Pulling all of that together can be a headache, especially if you are gearing alts or came back late in Phase 2. Guild catch-up runs, organised groups, and a[WoW TBC boost](https://instant-carry.com/tbc-classic-boost/) can help you knock out the important progression steps before Phase 3 lands.

## **Shadow Resistance Will Matter in Black Temple**

Regular upgrades are not the only gear worth preparing. Mother Shahraz is infamous for her raid-wide Shadow damage, which makes Shadow Resistance gear a genuine part of Black Temple prep rather than an afterthought.

Each guild should decide up front how much resistance it expects people to bring. Leaving it until the raid opens can get expensive fast, because demand for crafting materials, resistance pieces, enchants, consumables and gems tends to spike the moment a phase drops.

Check in with your raid leaders before you craft or buy a full set, though. The exact requirement shifts depending on the group’s strategy, composition and how cleanly you are clearing. It is also worth stocking Marks of the Illidari, since they are tied to reputation and needed for some of Phase 3’s specialised flasks.

## **Tier 6 Begins a New Stage of Progression**

Tier 6 armour is a real jump in power, but it will not make everything from Phase 2 useless overnight. Strong pieces out of Serpentshrine Cavern and Tempest Keep stay relevant while you slowly assemble your new set.

The bigger shift is that progression is now spread across two major raids at once. Guilds have to work out how to schedule both without giving up too much time in older content that still holds useful loot.

Phase 3 also brings epic gems, which opens things up for Jewelcrafters and anyone looking to squeeze more out of their gear. Expect demand for rare patterns, gems and profession materials to climb as more Tier 6 items come into circulation.

## **New raid reputations offer valuable rewards**

Black Temple and Mount Hyjal each come with their own reputation to grind.

Inside Black Temple, you build standing with the Ashtongue Deathsworn by clearing the raid, and higher reputation unlocks extra rewards, including class-specific trinkets once you hit Exalted.

Mount Hyjal ties to the Scale of the Sands. You can pick up a reputation ring and upgrade it as your standing climbs, and the faction also hands out valuable profession recipes, epic gem patterns among them.

Both give you a reason to keep clearing even after your main armour pieces are sorted. Reputation ticks up naturally as you raid, but reaching Exalted still takes steady, repeated participation.

## **Netherwing Dailies and Drake Mounts Arrive**

Phase 3 is not only about raiding. The Netherwing daily hub is a big outdoor goal in its own right, especially if you collect mounts.

You can start the opening Netherwing questline on normal flying, but the main reputation grind proper needs Artisan Riding and an epic flying mount. If you have your eye on a Netherwing Drake, start saving gold before August 27.

Once the hub is open, you run repeatable dailies and hunt for Netherwing Eggs for extra reputation. Expect the competition for eggs to be fierce in the opening weeks as everyone races toward Exalted at the same time.

It is a long grind, but the Netherwing Drakes are still some of the most distinctive flying mounts the expansion ever produced.

## **Arena Season 3 Refreshes PvP Progression**

PvP players get their own new chapter with Arena Season 3. The season brings stronger Arena gear and hands established teams another run at ratings and seasonal rewards.

Previous-season gear should get easier to pick up, which helps returning players close the gap on the people who never stopped queuing. Even so, teamwork and steady participation are still what carry you.

You can get ahead by lining up reliable partners, banking Honor for the supporting pieces, and shoring up any weak spots in your current set. Walking into the season with a team already sorted is far smoother than scrambling for partners once everyone else is already grinding.

## **Final Thoughts**

Phase 3 is shaping up to be one of the biggest updates in this progression cycle. Black Temple and Mount Hyjal bring Tier 6 raiding, while new factions, epic gems, Netherwing dailies, legendary weapons and Arena Season 3 fill out the rest of the endgame.

With the launch locked in for August 27, you have a clear deadline to prepare for. Finishing attunements, organising your raid group, building Shadow Resistance gear, saving for epic flying and stocking consumables will make the jump into Phase 3 a lot smoother.

Illidan is waiting inside Black Temple, and the players who prepare early will be ready when the gates finally open.
