While Dortmund have made a habit of finishing second, Bayern have been ever so consistent with their grip at the top.
The 19/20 season’s conclusion saw the Bavarian Giants lift the Bundesliga title for a record eighth straight time. An unprecedented feat in German football.
But that wasn’t enough and they went on to win the DFB Pokal and the Champions League title, completing a treble to cap off the 2019/20 season.
Let’s take a look at how things look for them this year.
Key Players
- Robert Lewandowski
- Thomas Muller
- Manuel Neuer
- Joshua Kimmich
- Leroy Sane
It was hard picking the key players because of the sheer quality of the squad in every single position. However, these five have the quality to turn a match around instantly.
Lewandowski will be looking for another Torjägerkanone, while Muller provides him with the assists. Manuel Neuer looks to be back in form and Kimmich’s brilliance is something that will carry the team into the future.
Leroy Sane’s arrival is sure to shake up the league in a way nobody imagined, and it might be even more difficult to dispatch the Bayern team this season.
Winning Points
All Bayern do is win, so the logical conclusion would be to keep doing whatever they’re doing. However, it’s never quite that simple.
Bayern have a very resolute squad and are extremely clinical with their chances. They create space and are dominant even when they’re not in possession.
The latter is what makes them so good every single season.
Challenges
What possible challenges could a side that just won the treble face? For starters, not getting complacent and resting on their previous laurels.
Secondly, Bayern must work on acquiring quality in their squad even when it is being rotated. Since Neuer, Muller and Lewandowski are in their thirties, the future must be laid out starting now.
Transfer Activity
Leroy Sane has been the hottest transfer of the summer for the Bavarians. Alexander Nubel has also joined the Allianz Arena from Schalke.
Departures include Alvaro Odriozola, Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Perisic, all of whom completed their loan spells at Bayern. Thiago also looks set to join Liverpool, as per reports that came out yesterday.
A transfer fee for Ajax’s Sergio Dest is on the verge of agreement and the club could land the right back soon.
Predicted Finish: 1st
It is hard to be realistic and not give this Bayern team a chance of not winning their ninth consecutive Bundesliga.
Hansi Flick won a treble in his first season at the helm, and this will be his first campaign where he starts from day one. It is an unbelievable lineup, with an equally impressive coach to lead the boys to glory.
