## Why Is the Concert Causing Backlash?

Online discussions erupted after reports emerged that several businesses near Gwanghwamun had been asked to temporarily suspend operations ahead of the concert, with some shops and facilities receiving notices recommending temporary closure to manage the expected visitor surge.

KT Corporation, the major South Korean telecom company headquartered right across from the square, reportedly planned to close its building entirely on the day of the event.

Critics also argue the city’s crackdown on hotel price gouging came too late — with some motels near the venue already charging up to ₩1,000,000 (~$693) per night, and all five-star hotels within one kilometre fully booked. Many fans, however, pushed back on the criticism. As one widely shared comment noted: “BTS proposed 18K people at the live event — it was Seoul City who decided it was going to be bigger. None of this is on the group.” [Mix Vale](https://www.mixvale.com.br/2026/03/11/netflix-releases-explosive-trailer-for-man-on-fire-with-yahya-abdul-mateen-ii-in-the-action-and-revenge-series-en/)

## Seoul’s Massive Safety Operation — What’s Being Deployed

The entire downtown district from Gwanghwamun to Seoul Plaza will be managed as a single event zone. Subway stations near the venue — including Gwanghwamun, City Hall, and Gyeongbokgung — are expected to skip stops during certain periods, with some entrances temporarily closed. Bus routes along Sejong-daero and Sajik-ro will be rerouted, and the city’s public bicycle service will be suspended. The Seoul Fire and Disaster Management Headquarters will station 99 fire trucks and 765 firefighters near the area, while police will implement a stadium-style crowd control system. More than 2,300 portable toilets will be arranged around the venue, and 12 temporary trains will be added after the concert. Authorities have divided the site into four crowd density zones — “Core,” “Hot,” “Warm,” and “Cold” — further split into 15 specific sectors, with 29 designated entry passageways to prevent dangerous surges. ## Why Gwanghwamun? The Historic Significance

This will be the first solo concert by a pop act in the history of Gwanghwamun Square — a space traditionally reserved for political or national events. [ComingSoon.net](https://www.comingsoon.net/tv/trailers/2106022-man-on-fire-trailer-netflix-tv-show-stars-yahya-adbul-mateen-ii) BigHit Music chose the location deliberately: “The new album ‘Arirang’ captures BTS’ origins, identity and the emotions they wish to convey right now. Given the symbolism of the word Arirang, we wanted to stage their first post-military performance in the space that best represents Korea.” [ComingSoon.net](https://www.comingsoon.net/tv/trailers/2106022-man-on-fire-trailer-netflix-tv-show-stars-yahya-adbul-mateen-ii)

The [K-pop](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K-pop) genre has never seen anything like this — a free outdoor concert turning an entire capital city into a managed event zone. Whether you’re watching live in Seoul or streaming on Netflix on March 21, history is being made. Stay updated on all BTS news at [TechnoSports](https://technosports.co.in).
