BTS took an unconventional route — the performance video for “SWIM” premiered exclusively on Spotify and Apple Music before landing on YouTube. This strategy reflects a bigger industry shift, with streaming platforms now driving chart performance more than ever.

And the numbers back it up. Released on March 20, 2026, “ARIRANG” opened with over 110 million global Spotify streams in its first 24 hours — the largest debut for any K-pop album in the platform’s history.

## What Makes “SWIM” So Special?

“SWIM” is an Alternative Pop track built around a central message of resilience and forward momentum — interpreting the act of swimming calmly at one’s own pace through life’s waves as “love for life.” [Backyard Drunkard](https://backyarddrunkard.com/k-pop/bts-swim-mv-breakdown-lyrics-arirang-album-2026/) RM penned the lyrics, and the emotional weight hits differently knowing everything BTS has been through.

During their comeback concert, the members’ graceful movements evoked the fluidity of the sea, expressing the desire to keep moving forward along life’s many changing tides. The album itself draws deep cultural meaning — ARIRANG takes its name from a traditional Korean folk song, with Big Hit Music stating the album “captures BTS’ identity as a group that began in Korea.” [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arirang_(album)) Learn more about the folk song’s rich history on [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arirang_(album)).
