BSNL purchasing 1lakh 4G sites from TCS and ITI

The state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has issued a purchase order (PO) to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and ITI Limited for 1 lakh 4G sites. In May, BSNL issued the two firms an advance purchase order (APO) worth over Rs 19,000 crores.

The state-run ITI Limited will deploy 20% of the total sites. On May S, the Group of Ministers (GOM) approved the deployment of 1 lakh sites by the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)-led consortium for the implementation of BSNL’s 4G network.

TCS, a Tata group company based in Mumbai, would supply 4G equipment for 100,000 locations for a total of close to Rs 24500 crore, which includes network gear worth approximately Rs 13,000 crore, third-party products, and a 10-year annual maintenance contract (AMC).

BSNL awarded ITI an APO worth Rs 3,889 crores for a Reservation Quota (RQ) Order in the west zone.

ITI will develop, engineer, supply, construct, and commission a 4G network for 23,633 locations in the west zone, as well as provide an Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC).

On Wednesday, the Union Cabinet approved the telecom PSU’s third revival package worth Rs 89,047 crores, which involves the allocation of 4G/5G spectrum through equity infusion.

The approved capital of BSNL will be boosted from Rs crore to Rs crore, according to an official statement from the Cabinet, adding that with this revival package, BSNL will emerge as a solid telecom service provider focused on providing connectivity to India’s most distant areas.

According to the statement, with this spectrum allotment, BSNL will be able to provide pan-India 4G and 5G service, rural and uncovered village 4G coverage under various connectivity projects, fixed wireless access (FWA) services, and services/spectrum for captive non-public network (CNPN).
