Marc Cucurella is set to leave Getafe to join Brighton in the Premier League. The player will be the most expensive sale in the history of the club, with the English club set to pay his release clause in the next few hours.

Brighton will pay €18 million for his services, and Barcelona will receive 10% of the amount, which is €1.8 million. This is because they had a sell-on clause in the player’s contract when he made the move from the Blaugrana to Getafe permanent in 2020.

So far, Cucurella has made 86 appearances for Getafe after combining his time on loan and the permanent signing. He predominantly operates as a left midfielder and has registered four goals and eight assists during his time at the club.

Cucurella received two bids but he wants to play for Brighton as priority.

Playing for the Seagulls is the priority for Cucurella, who rejected two separate bids from other clubs to push Getafe to accept the offer from them. His performances for the club allowed him to be selected in the Spain Olympics team, where he won the silver medal.

The player has missed training for the last week, in order to force a transfer to Amex, and the terms should be fully agreed upon in the next few hours. Cucurella will link up with fellow Spanish player Robert Sanchez at the club and will be a great addition for Graham Potter as he hopes to achieve a top-half finish.
