Graham Potter was stunned on his return to Brighton, with Chelsea defeated 4-1 at the Amex Stadium. A horror first half for the visitors saw them 3-0 down by the time they went back into the tunnel.

A last-minute goal from Pascal Gross made it 4 in the favour of the home side. The Brighton fans were not welcoming of their former first team manager, chanting ‘You’re getting sacked in the morning’ and ‘Potter, Potter, what’s the score?’ at him.

It is quite dramatic that the head coach’s former team has handed Chelsea their first loss under the new manager.

Trevoh Chalobah and Ruben Loftus Cheek both had terrible games, as they both scored own goals to give the hosts the lead. Leandro Trossard scored his 7th goal for the season right before halftime, spelling further misery for the Londoners.

Kai Havertz was able to pull one back for Chelsea on the other side of half time, and there was hope for a comeback. However, they weren’t able to score a vital second goal to turn the momentum in their favour any further.

Kepa Arrizabalaga suffered a foot injury, and was replaced at half time by Edouard Mendy. The Spaniard has been in very good form recently, while Mendy has struggled to maintain his run. With games approaching thick and fast, Chelsea will have to regroup and focus on the next game at hand before turning their attention to rivals Arsenal next weekend.
