Jose Mourinho was appointed as the manager of Tottenham Hotspur in November 2019 after Mauricio Pochettino was sacked mid-season. Mourinho was appointed with the hope of taking the team over the final hurdle which Pochettino failed in the previous season, the 2019 Champions League final.
However, Mourinho has failed to take the team forward and has been in dismissal form in the Premier League and has been knocked out of the Europa League as well.
Tottenham Hotspur has now sacked Jose Mourinho ahead of the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City this weekend at Wembley.
The official statement read: “The Club can today announce that Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff Joao Sacramento, Nuno Santos, Carlos Lalin and Giovanni Cerra have been relieved of their duties.”
Chairman, Daniel Levy, said: “Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a Club. Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic. On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged. He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution.”
Ryan Mason will take First Team training today and a further update will follow in due course.
Tottenham Hotspur are languishing in seventh place in the Premier League standings, five points adrift of fourth place to gain Champions League qualification for the next season. So Daniel Levy has now finally pulled the trigger.
The sacking has now become an imminent part of Jose Mourinho managerial reign, starting from Chelsea. The same thing happened at Manchester United and has happened again at Tottenham Hotspur. It seems the Special One’s reign is over, with his approach bearing no fruit at all for the teams.
Spurs are now looking for a permanent manager, and RB Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann is the favourite to take over the job.
