Erling Haaland versus five-time champions Brazil — this is the round-of-16 clash the whole tournament’s been waiting for.

Brazil ground past Japan with a stoppage-time winner. Norway made history just getting here. Sunday, July 5 could go either way, and that’s exactly why it’s the pick of the round.

## Likely Lineups

Official lineups drop roughly an hour before kickoff, but based on how both sides have set up through the knockouts, here’s the expected shape:

**Norway (Probable 4-3-3):** Nyland (GK); Ajer, Østigård, Nypan; Antonio Nusa, Sander Berge, Martin Ødegaard; Alexander Sørloth, Erling Haaland.

Casemiro is fresh off a headed equaliser against Japan, and Vinícius Jr remains Brazil’s leading scorer. For Norway, Haaland just became the fastest player in history to reach 60 international goals, doing it in only 53 matches — so expect Brazil’s backline to double up on him early.

## Teams’ Road to the Round of 16

| Team | Group Stage | Round of 32 | Standout Player |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Brazil | Won Group C | Beat Japan 2-1 | Vinícius Jr / Gabriel Martinelli |
| Norway | 2nd in group | Beat Côte d’Ivoire 2-1 | Erling Haaland |

Norway’s win over Côte d’Ivoire was its first-ever World Cup knockout-stage victory, with Haaland’s 86th-minute strike sealing it. Brazil, meanwhile, needed Gabriel Martinelli’s stoppage-time goal to edge past a stubborn Japan side and book their spot for an 11th straight round of 16.
