The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has reignited discussions with Carlo Ancelotti in an attempt to secure the Real Madrid boss as the national team’s head coach for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

With pressure mounting on current coach Dorival Junior following Brazil’s disappointing 4-1 defeat to Argentina in the qualifiers, CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues is once again pushing for Ancelotti to take charge.

CBF’s Pursuit of Ancelotti

Brazil’s interest in the Italian tactician is not new. Rodrigues has twice attempted to bring Ancelotti on board—first in 2022 and again in 2023—only for Real Madrid to shut down the possibility by extending his contract until 2026.

Despite this, the CBF remains persistent in its efforts, believing Ancelotti is the ideal candidate to restore Brazil’s dominance on the world stage.

Madrid’s Stance on Ancelotti’s Future

Real Madrid have denied knowledge of any recent contact between Ancelotti and Brazil’s footballing authorities. While Madrid are currently focused on their domestic and European ambitions, speculation surrounding the club’s long-term managerial plans continues. Reports have suggested that the Spanish giants have already initiated talks with Xabi Alonso, the current Bayer Leverkusen coach, as a potential successor.

Ancelotti, however, remains unfazed by the rumors. Addressing his future earlier this year, he stated: “I want to be very clear: the departure date of this club is never going to be decided by me in my life. I have the advantage that Florentino will stay for four more years and I have the objective of reaching them with him. We can say goodbye together.”

Strong Bond with Brazilian Stars

One key factor fueling the CBF’s determination to land Ancelotti is his excellent rapport with Brazilian players at Madrid. The likes of Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, Eder Militao, and rising star Endrick all share a strong connection with the veteran coach.

His success in developing these players into world-class talents has only strengthened Brazil’s belief that he is the perfect fit for the national team.

Ancelotti’s Glorious Stint at Madrid

Since rejoining Madrid in 2021, Ancelotti has guided the club to remarkable success, winning 10 titles, including a historic La Liga-Champions League double in the 2023-24 season. With the club currently competing for a treble—being in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey, the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and level on points with Barcelona in La Liga—the Italian remains fully committed to his current role.

While Brazil’s pursuit of Ancelotti has reignited speculation about his future, Madrid remain firm in their stance that he will honor his contract. However, should the club move forward with their reported interest in Alonso, the situation could change rapidly.

For now, Ancelotti’s focus remains on guiding Madrid to further silverware, while the CBF continues to explore ways to bring him on board. Whether the 64-year-old will swap the Santiago Bernabéu for the Brazilian dugout remains to be seen, but the saga is far from over.
