Brahim Diaz is set to turn his allegiance to the Morocco national team, in spite of having played for the Spanish senior national team once. The midfielder was called up by Luis de la Fuente for Spain’s game against Lithuania, and is now expected to represent Morocco.
Diaz was born in Malaga, but can represent Morocco through his family. Players can change national teams as long as they either have a parent or grandparent from the other country, have lived there for five years continuously or were born there.
Brahim Diaz to change nationality to Morocco
Brahim Diaz has represented Spain at all youth levels, but has only made one appearance in an international friendly which makes him eligible to change national teams. He will also be called upon during the African Cup of Nations to be held in January, which means Real Madrid will have to hope that they avoid major injuries in the squad during that period.
In spite of being only 24 years old, Brahim Diaz has already played and won several titles in England, Spain and Italy. And he will have a great chance at adding international silverware to his list of achievements, when Morocco play the AFCON.
With the likes of Sofyan Amrabat, Hakim Ziyech and Youssef En-Nesyri also in the side, Morocco are heading in as the favourites to win the tournament this time around, especially after their miraculous run at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
