## What Is *Boys of Tommen* Based On?

*Boys of Tommen* is an upcoming romance drama television series produced for Prime Video, based on the *Boys of Tommen* novel series by Irish author Chloe Walsh. The books became a genuine cultural phenomenon on BookTok — Walsh’s intensely emotional storytelling and deeply complex characters accumulated millions of devoted readers worldwide before a single studio came calling.

Season 1 will be based around the first two books of Walsh’s series — *Binding 13* and *Keeping 13*. Two more books are confirmed for release in 2026 — *Taming 7* and *Healing 7* — meaning the franchise is expanding in print and on screen simultaneously. For fans, it’s an extraordinary moment. ## The Plot: A Forbidden Love Story With Real Emotional Weight

*Boys of Tommen* follows the forbidden love story of Johnny Kavanagh, the star rugby player on the verge of a pro career, and Shannon Lynch, the talented but painfully shy new girl at the prestigious private school of Tommen College in Ballylaggin, Ireland. Both teenagers are hiding secrets — Johnny, a potentially career-ending injury, and Shannon, a troubled and violent home life. Through their secret and highly charged connection, the two teens from opposite worlds battle against the odds and find a way to save each other. It’s a story about first love, resilience, mental health, and the messy, beautiful chaos of growing up — told with the kind of emotional authenticity that Walsh’s readers have always loved about her work. Think *The Summer I Turned Pretty* meets *Normal People*, with a distinctly Irish heart beating at its centre.

## The Cast: Fresh Faces With Serious Talent

Prime Video received over 3,000 casting suggestions from across the UK and Ireland — a testament to just how invested the fanbase already is. The final four leads are a brilliant blend of promising newcomers and rising talent.

**Nancy Surridge** leads as Shannon Lynch — “a shy and mysterious girl new to Tommen College.” **Conor Sánchez** plays Johnny Kavanagh, “the golden boy of Tommen and Shannon’s love interest.” **James O’Donoghue** takes on Joey Lynch, Shannon’s “troubled but loyal” older brother, while **Sophie McGibbon** plays the “fiercely confident” Aoife Molloy, Joey’s love interest. Surridge steps into her first major screen role, while Sánchez brings experience from the period biopic *Power & Glory* and the BBC miniseries *Mix Tape*. Director **Brendan Canty** — who grew up in Cork where the story is set — called the casting process deeply personal and described the four leads as bringing “something beyond special.”

## The Creative Team Behind It

The series is being adapted by Poppy Cogan, who serves as lead writer and executive producer, alongside author Walsh. Cogan previously adapted *A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder* — another BookTok sensation — for BBC and Netflix, making her the perfect choice to handle this material with the care it demands. The producers behind *Twilight* and *The Summer I Turned Pretty* are also on board, giving the production serious YA pedigree. The studio behind it — wiip — is the same team that brought *The Summer I Turned Pretty* to life for Prime Video, which adds even more cause for excitement.
