Borussia Dortmund won the DFL-Supercup by beating Bayern Munich 2-0.
Jadon Sancho was the star of the match. He provided an assist for Paco Alcacer and then later scored a goal himself to beat Bayern 2-0 and clinch the first title of this season – DFL-Supercup.
Bayern Munich were outthought and outmanoeuvred on Saturday, with Dortmund looking in great shape ahead of the new Bundesliga season.
Dortmund came out on top in the second half as they played with much more intent. Sancho picked his moments perfectly to make an impact in the match. His run for Alcacer’s goal was exceptional, while he showed stamina, pace and composure to double the advantage.
For Bayern Munich, Manuel Neuer did have a good game. Despite conceding twice and nearly giving a goal away as he rushed out to meet Alcacer on the halfway line, the German made a string of excellent saves to keep the scoreline down and Dortmund at bay.
For Niko Kovac’s men, the result was a reminder that they have areas in their squad to improve and they will no doubt increase their efforts to land the young winger and long term target Leroy Sane from Manchester City.
Borussia Dortmund, meanwhile, go some way to make up for their 5-0 capitulation to Bayern in April, which eventually costed them the Bundesliga title. They now go into the new Bundesliga season buoyed by winning the first silverware of the campaign.
