Borussia Dortmund have signed Anthony Modeste from Koln as the replacement for Sebastian Haller. The Frenchman has signed a one-year contract with the black and yellow club for the 22/23 season.
Haller recently became Dortmund’s record signing, but was diagnosed with a testicular tumour. As a result, he will be missing the next few months at the very least. To substitute his goalscoring input, Modeste has been added to the squad as the ninth signing of the summer.

The player will be receiving a €6 million salary for the season, with the Billy Goats receiving a transfer amount worth €5 million for the player. At 34, he has a wealth of experience, and has proven himself as a top goalscorer in the German top flight. Last season, he was able to score 20 goals in 32 Bundesliga appearances.
Amidst reports that he made the move over money, Anthony Modeste has clarified that it was the chance to play in the Champions League that really sold him on the transfer.
“Certain circumstances in football mean that you can’t control fate,” said Modeste. “As many might think, I’m not going for the money. I’ve turned down big offers from Gulf countries. It’s always been my dream to experience the Champions League and now that opportunity has presented itself to me. I don’t think it will come again.”
