Borussia Dortmund have agreed personal terms with PSV Eindhoven striker Donyell Malen. However, the two clubs remain €5 million apart on their valuation of the player.
While Borussia Dortmund are willing to pay €25 million for his services, the Dutch club want €30 million for Malen, who has a contract until 2023. At 22, he is a very bright prospect for the black and yellow club and perfectly matches their transfer profiles of recruiting talented youngsters and turning them into world-class footballers.
Malen could very well be an early replacement for Erling Haaland. The Norwegian has been linked with a transfer away, and Chelsea are pushing hard to get the deal done this summer itself. While there is no update on the Blues and their success in the pursuit of Haaland, they are willing to break the bank to sign the striker.
Haaland has a release clause in his contract worth €75 million that kicks in next summer. So, even if he doesn’t leave this year, he will surely be gone next year, and Dortmund are investing smartly by choosing a replacement for him this summer itself. In the case that Haaland leaves, they will be left with a ton of cash and a viable option to take his place in the team.
Malen made 4 appearances for the Dutch national team in the Euros and assisted two goals. The same report that confirmed Dortmund’s interest in Malen denied that they want to sign Noni Maudeke of PSV.
