The current Sporting director of Bologna, Walter Sabatini was working for Roma when he scouted Erik Lamela, who was at River Plate and brought him to Roma. Lamela joined Roma in 2011 for a fee worth €17 million before moving to Tottenham in 2013 for €30 million. He has been with the London club ever since.
In a recent interview, Sabatini hinted at a reunion with Lamela, when he said they want to bring him to Bologna. They have a good relationship from their days together in Italy last decade and could be a promising chance for both the player and Sabatini.
Speaking on the transfer rumour on the Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano further commented that Riccardo Orsolini was in talks to be sold and Lamela was to be signed in his stead. As the situation stands, Lamela is happy at Spurs. He isn’t planning to leave and it won’t be an easy deal should Bologna decide to pursue it further.
There is nothing advanced between the two parties, and if anything has to mature then it will be in a few months when the season is over since Lamela only has a year of contract with Spurs left. Sabatini is a great scout and was responsible for having scouted Marquinhos from Corinthians second team. He is now one of the best centre-backs in the world, playing for PSG.
