Black Summer is an American action, apocalyptic fiction, horror, drama TV series. Karl Schaefer and John Hyams create it. The series is based on Z Nation by Karl Schaefer and Craig Engler. Jodi Binstock and The Asylum produce it. It has 2 seasons, and it was heard that there is a chance of renewing this series for the third one.
The first season was released on 11th April 2019; it consists of 8 episodes and has a running time of 21-58 minutes. The second was released on 17th June 2021, and it also has the same no of episodes and running time as the first season.
The story revolves around a mother separated from her daughter who started a harrowing journey and stopped at nothing to find her. Thrust alongside a small group of American refugees. She was brave and hostile, and in the new world, she made brutal decisions during the most deadly summer of a zombie apocalypse.
The second season of Black Summer was a great improvement over the first one. If something that the Black Summer wants to continue to do well, it should ensure that every encounter with zombies should be frightening, and confrontations with other survivors are nerve-wracking.
Will Black Summer renew for a third season on Netflix?
The official Netflix Renewal Status is still pending; it was last updated on 17th June 2021. After one month of the release of Black Summer season 2 on Netflix, we have still not heard anything about the destiny of the series.
According to FlixPatrol, the show faded out of the top 10 charts around the world relatively quickly. The importance of staying in the top 10 is that those who have failed to stay in the top 10s for 30 days were later transformed into the most canceled shows of 2020.
Still, now no viewership has been released, but somehow we can track the number of other metrics to know that how the show is performing, and this is where we could have some potentially bad news.
Only the viewership will determine whether Black Summer will return for the third season or not. To be specific, new viewers and how many viewers have been holding on from the first season will have a great impact.
In the United States, the show featured in the top 10s for 12 days, whereas in the UK, it stayed in the top 10s for 14 days.
So there is currently a 50/50 chance on whether the show will be renewed or not.
Expectations from Black Summer Season 2
The ending of the Black Summer season 2 has left us with many questions that were not answered and were left for the 3rd season.
Is that Lance?
At the end of season 1, we have seen Lance for the last time when he was running away from a small horde of zombies and his destiny was left unknown. Probably no one was expecting to see him return in the second season. But finally, we have learned the sad, and although the tragic fate of the character.
After stopping his car to allow a pregnant woman inside, she tricked him and unlocked the driver’s side of the door. This allowed the man that Lance failed to stop for, to get inside and shoot him in the neck. With his blood all over the dashboard, the pair attempting to steal the car crashed, which then lead to a dramatic chase between the now zombified Lance and his murderer.
But it is a shame that we did not get to see more of Lance, we finally learn about his destiny is more than appreciated.
Where the plane was taking Sun?
All the survivors made it to the airstrip, but the only person to make it into the plane was Sun. After the conversation with the pilot, it was still not clear where the pilot is traveling to. We have seen that the pilot has stopped to refuel, and the plane brings with the amount of attention. There was no guarantee that Sun and the Pilot will get the chance to take off again.
Whether Rose will survive or not?
In their dramatic conflict, Rose has used the flare gun to destroy fuel barrels behind Ray, but the resulting explosion injured the pair. Rose’s injured leg left her unable to board the plane and was prepared to die and be left behind in order to see Anna board the plane, but her daughter opted against boarding and made it back to her.
We are left to think that what the destiny of Rose is going to be as Anna was not able to find a car, but when she has made it back to Rose. It was looked like she was just questioning what her next move is going to be.
Anna has shown that the zombie apocalypse has a taken a toll on her mental health. It was not improbable that she would leave Rose to die. The fact Anna witnessed her leave Spears to die clearly resonates with her months later.
The Ski-Lodge
The Ski-Lodge is the most logical place for the survivors, with the plane no longer a viable option. The lodge has comfortable beds with adequate availability for everyone, food that can last for over a year, fuel, and plenty of water.
The main issue that was faced by anyone who was staying at the lodge is that it is incrediably very hard to defend. It is very hard for anyone including zombies, to get inside because of numerous number of entrances and windows.
The lodge was scheduled enough that survivors and zombies would be few and far between. But, it’s still a giant gamble.
Expected Release Date for the third season of Black Summer on Netflix
It has taken two years between the first and second seasons of Black Summer.
If the third season follows the same, then the subscribers could wait till 2023 for the next season. Currently we may not expect Black Summer to return until August 2023. It all depends on the renewal status of the series.
