If you haven’t watched *Living* yet, you’ve been missing one of the most quietly devastating films of the last few years. The good news? Living movie streaming is now easier than ever, with the Oscar-nominated British drama available on Netflix in the United States. This is exactly the kind of film you put on when you want cinema that actually *means* something — and Bill Nighy’s performance will stay with you long after the credits roll.

Based on a screenplay by Kazuo Ishiguro and directed by Oliver Hermanus, the film follows an English bureaucrat with an icy exterior who begins to soften when a dire prognosis inspires him to change tack and build his legacy. It is tender, unhurried, and deeply human — the kind of drama that makes you rethink your own priorities. What it delivers instead is something rarer — a meditation on mortality, regret, and the quiet courage it takes to actually start *living* before it is too late. The movie holds a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes with a 96% score, and it scooped two Oscar nomination nods at the 95th Academy Awards, with Nighy picking up a Best Actor nomination and a Best Adapted Screenplay nom for Kazuo Ishiguro.

It had a limited theatrical release in the US following its initial debut at the Sundance Film Festival, with Sony Pictures Classics acquiring the US distribution rights. [whats-on-netflix](https://www.whats-on-netflix.com/news/living-bill-nighy-oscar-nominated-movie-sets-netflix-us-release/) The film arrived on Netflix US through the broader Sony output deal that has brought several Sony Pictures Classics titles to the platform. It marked the movie’s first appearance on a streaming service after being available to rent for several months.

*Living* is actually a remake of the 1952 Japanese film *Ikiru* by the legendary Akira Kurosawa — itself one of cinema’s most beloved works.
