Malayalam cinema has always had a special place for comedy-driven storytelling, and **Bharathanatyam 2 Mohiniyattam** is proving just that. Directed by Krishnadas Murali, this dark comedy sequel starring **Saiju Kurup** and **Suraj Venjaramoodu** has emerged as a genuine Super Hit at the Kerala box office — and the numbers tell the story loud and clear.

### Why Is This Film Such a Big Deal?

Let’s be honest — not every Malayalam film gets to strut past Rs. 20 crore. For a dark comedy with a modest budget and no massive action set-pieces, this is a genuine achievement. The film also marks **Saiju Kurup’s 150th film**, which in itself deserves a standing ovation.

The story follows Sasidharan Nair as his family travels to Sreekandapuram to settle matters related to his late father’s secret second family — leading to criminal, scandalous, and hilariously chaotic situations. Think family drama, but with the kind of uncomfortable laughs only Malayalam cinema pulls off.

The ensemble cast — including **Jagadish, Vinay Forrt, Baby Jean, Kala Ranjini**, and others — adds layers to the narrative that keep audiences hooked beyond just the lead performances.

This success also reflects the growing appetite for [dark comedy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_comedy) as a genre in Indian regional cinema, where audiences increasingly seek intelligent, tonally complex entertainment.

### What Happens Next?

The third week is expected to show slower momentum due to *Patriot*‘s blockbuster-level advance bookings. Still, Rs. 30 crore in Kerala alone for a mid-budget dark comedy is a milestone that proves **content still wins at the box office**.
