How Bharat Taxi Differs from Ola and Uber

Unlike traditional ride-hailing platforms that charge drivers 20-25% commission per ride, Bharat Taxi operates as a cooperative under Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited. Drivers pay only a nominal daily, weekly, or monthly membership fee and retain 100% of their earnings. This model transforms drivers from contractors into co-owners with voting rights and profit-sharing benefits.

For passengers, this means transparent, standardized fares with no surge pricing or arbitrary cancellations. The platform integrates with national digital ecosystems like DigiLocker, UMANG, and API Setu for seamless identity verification and service delivery.

Backed by India’s Leading Cooperatives

Bharat Taxi enjoys unprecedented institutional support from eight major cooperatives including Amul, IFFCO, NABARD, and the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), each contributing ₹10 crore for the pilot. The governing council, chaired by Amul’s Jayen Mehta, ensures the platform remains driver-centric while maintaining operational excellence.

This cooperative model mirrors the success of Amul in dairy and IFFCO in fertilizers, proving that member-owned enterprises can compete effectively against private corporations while ensuring equitable wealth distribution.

A Game-Changer for Gig Workers

With India’s gig workforce projected to reach 23.5 million by 2030, Bharat Taxi offers a blueprint for ethical platform work. Drivers gain entrepreneurial dignity, stable income, and protection from algorithmic exploitation—addressing years of complaints about high commissions and unfair penalties.
