Karim Benzema is set to sign the dotted line on his new Real Madrid contract, extending his deal with the club until 2023. His current deal runs out in 2022 and he has been in talks for an extension since March.

The player had a verbal agreement in place with the club since May, but the signing of the contract was delayed due to the return of the player to the French national team for the Euros. But now, it is all set to be completed and announced in the days to come.

The Real Madrid board and Benzema maintain a great relationship, and he is seen as untouchable by the management. They want the Frenchman to retire at the club, and have placed a release clause of €1 billion in his contract.

The 33-year-old joined Real Madrid in 2009 for a fee worth €35 million, and has since gone on to become Madrid’s star centre-forward. Several prolific strikers have been signed to compete with the player, but he has held on to his starting berth despite all challenges. As of the last few seasons, Benzema has become the main attacking threat for Los Blancos, primarily after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

In 560 games for Real Madrid, Benzema has scored 281 goals and has provided 144 assists. He has gone on to lift every trophy available with the club, and remains one of the best and most underrated strikers across the continent.
