Real Madrid have had a pretty poor start to the 20/21 Champions League campaign with a defeat at home to Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk. They would’ve lost again last night but were saved by Benzema and Casemiro in the last 5 minutes of the game.
A rather shocking footage has come to light of a conversation between Karim Benzema and Ferland Mendy.
Benzema was found communicating to the defender in French and his words, roughly translated mean, “He does whatever he wants. Brother, don’t play with him. On my mother’s life, he’s playing against us.”
The Frenchman was most likely referring to Vinicius Jr, who played out wide for the match and had a pretty poor game. So much so that it forced Benzema to consider that the youngster was playing for Gladbach.
The striker’s frustration was obvious since he has been one of the longest-serving players at Real and is also one of the four captains of the LaLiga champions.
Despite their victorious season in the league, the club have not been very lucky in European competition, losing both of their quarter-final legs to Manchester City last season to bring an end to their hopes for a 14th European title.
While it hasn’t been officially confirmed that the subject of Benzema’s conversation was actually Vinicius, the fact that he was barely on the ball during his 70 minutes on the pitch go a long way towards the fact being implied.
To make things even more dramatic, both of Real Madrid’s match-saving goals were scored after Vinicius’ substitution.
The youngster’s starting position in the lineup was justified considering it took him only 15 seconds to find the back of the net as he came off the bench against Shakhtar Donetsk.
However this poor performance last night is sure to make Zidane reconsider his choices out wide.
