Bengaluru to host 2023 SAFF Championship: Everything you need to know about the Hosts, Venues, Teams and Schedule

The South Asian Football Federation SAFF Championship 2023 is all set to take place in Bengaluru, India, from June 21 to July 3, 2023. This is the 13th edition of the tournament, and India is hosting it for the fourth time. Bengaluru was announced as the venue for the tournament by All India Football Federation (AIFF) President Kalyan Chaubey on March 19, 2023.

Venue: Bengaluru, India

Bengaluru will be the host city for the SAFF Championship 2023. The tournament matches will be played at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, which is a multi-purpose stadium located in the heart of the city.

Participating Teams

All member associations of the South Asian Football Federation will participate in the tournament. The teams are divided into two groups, and they will play round-robin matches on the group stage. The top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals. The draw for the tournament is yet to be announced.

India’s Dominance

India has asserted its dominance in the SAFF Championship, having won the title eight times. The Maldives are the closest to India, having won the title twice.

AIFF’s Vision 2047

The SAFF Championship is an important tournament for the Indian National Team as it provides them with the opportunity to have more international exposure. The tournament will also help achieve the goals set as part of the AIFF’s Vision 2047 project.

AIFF’s Commitment

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) is committed to achieving the goals set as part of the Vision 2047 project. The AIFF Secretary General Dr Shaji Prabhakaran believes that the SAFF Championship is being organised in Bengaluru at the appropriate time, and playing at home will give the Indian footballers much-needed extra motivation.
